Set Up The Connection
Y3PL Software offers a full integration with ShipStation to automate your shipping label generation. To connect to your ShipStation account, go to "my profile", then click on "API Settings". Your API key and secret is located at the bottom of the page.
If you accidentally clicked on "Regenerate API Keys", you will need to update your Y3PL system with the new pair of credentials.
In your Y3PL system, go to Settings => Company, then enter your ShipStation API key and secret. Click on save. The system will try to load resources from your ShipStation account. The following resources will be saved in your Y3PL system
- Your ship from warehouses
- Your carrier accounts and their shipping methods
Because above data are cached locally in your Y3PL system, you need to click on "Reload ShipStation" if one of the following happens:
- You cannot find a ship from location when creating a new client
- You cannot find a new carrier that exists in ShipStation
Assign Ship From Warehouse
In ShipStation, you can have as many ship from warehouse as you want. This allows you to zone skip your shipments or manage carrier billings more efficiently.
In Y3PL system, you can map each individual 3PL client to their own ship from warehouse in ShipStation. All you need to do is to add a new ship from address in your ShipStation and map the warehouse location to your 3PL client in the editing client page.
In Y3PL system, you need to set up multiple carriers to your customer to choose from. If your ShipStation is correctly connected, you can easily map the carrier to your ShipStation account like the following:
Once this is mapped, any shipments with this carrier (UPS Ground, in our case) will be created in your ShipStation. All you need to do after a shipment is packed is to click ship in ShipStation and your carrier label will be printed.
Tracking Number and Shipping Charge
After an order is shipped in your ShipStation, the next step is usually going to your Y3PL system, and bill your customer for the shipping out an order. As soon as you click on the "Bill" button, the tracking number and shipping charge will be retrieved back from your ShipStation account.
If you have a billing rule set up, the shipping charge will be automatically passed to your 3PL customer.
The tracking number will be emailed to your 3PL customer as part of the shipment report if it is set up.
Y3PL system automatically create customs declaration for international shipments. You need to ensure your system is set up with the following:
- In your Settings => Company => Home Country Code field, you need to specify your home country. Any shipments with this country code will be domestic, which do not have custom declaration.
- The international fields for each inventory items are correctly entered
